Affogatos – coffee affogato recipe – half calories makes double taste

Even if you add some whipped cream to this delicious low calorie coffee affogato you are going to stay under 200 calories, which is half the calories you would consume drinking ice coffee with regular vanilla ice cream. You can add some spray cream to it and it will be still very low calorie. A regular coffee affogato in a restaurant contains between 250-500 calories. Coffee itself does not contain a lot of calories, but vanilla ice cream that is added to it definitely does. I developed a low calorie vanilla ice cream that goes perfectly with a coffee and you will need only 4 ingredients to make it.

affogatos

Vanilla taste comes from vanilla sugar, that is added to it and you can definitely substitute it with vanilla drops. The creaminess comes from cream cheese – so do not skip it. The base for the ice cream is frozen banana – you will need to prepare it in advance – it is never a bad idea to have frozen banana in your freezer – so make some more of it and you can prepare amazing ice creams using it.

Tips & hacks for the recipe

*To prepare frozen bananas, cut the bananas into small pieces (better really small – it will make blending easier) and put it into a zip bag. Put into the freezer – it takes around 4 hours for the banana to be completely frozen. Keep it in the freezer for weeks.

*If you want a really cold coffee you can make a coffee in advance and put it in the fridge. Wait till it gets cold and then make an ice cream and add to your iced coffee. I prefer quick preparation and adding ice cream to a hot coffee. It does not get completely cold, but the combination of hot coffee and cold ice cream tastes amazing.
