Easy cinnamon roll recipe: secret ingredient & delicious topping

Easy cinnamon rolls full of cinnamon flavor and pure sweetness without refined sugar. And the best thing about this recipe is – it is so easy and quick – you do not need to spend hours in the kitchen and wait till your dough rises. We substitute the dough  with a secret ingredient that shortens prep time a lot.
We do not use any refined sugar in this recipe, but the rolls are incredibly sweet. This is because of the combination of sweet apples and raisins that give this recipe a very sweet taste. The taste is natural and is not overloaded with sugar. The best thing about cinnamon rolls is always a topping. But in most cases the topping is overloaded with lots of sugar powder. That is why cinnamon rolls are usually full of sugar and also very calorie dense. This recipe is different: to make the topping sweet and creamy, but not to overload it with refined sugar, I am using greek yogurt, cream cheese and some maple syrup. This makes the topping healthier and lower in calories.

Easy cinnamon rolls

To shorten the preparation time and not to spend hours in the kitchen making the dough, I am using a secret ingredient that you would definitely have at home. I am substituting making the dough by using tortilla wraps. It is so easy, you can use them to make cinnamon rolls that are ready very quickly.

Ingredients

  • 350 g peeled grated apples
  • 40 g raisins
  • 5 g cinnamon
  • 2.5 tortilla wraps

Topping

  • 140 g greek yogurt 10% fat
  • 30 g cream cheese
  • 20 g maple syrup

Instructions

  • Grate 350 g of peeled apples.
  • Add 40 g of raisins and 5 g of cinnamon to grated apples and mix.
  • Put the apple-raisin mixture on the tortilla wrap, roll them up and cut them into pieces. One piece should be about 4 cm wide.
  • Put the rolls into the baking form (mine is 18X20 cm) and bake in the oven at 180 C / 355 F
  • for 30 minutes.

Prepare the topping

  • Mix 140 g of greek yogurt, 30 g of cream cheese and 20 g of maple syrup.
  • After 30 minutes take cinnamon rolls out of the oven and switch off the oven.
  • Pour the topping over the cinnabons. Spread it over cinnabons – especially important to spread it between the cinnabons, so they get soft.
  • Put in a switched off oven (but still warm) for 15 minutes.
